On Monday, January 19th, the City of Acworth celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a special ceremony held at City Hall. The celebration consisted of Mayor Allegood welcoming everyone, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Officer Youlanda Leverette, an invocation by Reverend Frank Johnson of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, comments made by the speaker and Civil Rights Activist, Carrie Pinson, a presentation by the Acworth Achievers Mentoring and After School Program, and a performance by Bethel AME Church. Following the ceremony, the Acworth Achievers hosted a MLK Day of Service activity at Barber Middle School, helping to restore the garden. It was a great day for the City of Acworth and all who participated in celebrating this extraordinary leader.
