Alderman Butch Price presented this year's Arbor Day Proclamation to Acworth Tree Commission members Cyndi McLaughlin and Sylvia Flanagan. Arbor Day originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska by J. Sterling Morton, which on April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted. The Acworth Tree Commission sponsored the Arbor Day Poster Contest at McCall Primary, Acworth Elementary, Frey Elementary, Brookwood Christian, and Cornerstone Preparatory Schools. Approximately 75 posters were entered in the contest and divided by grades. Representatives from the Parks and Recreation Department and Tree Commission judged the posters. The Acworth Tree Commission awarded 1st through 3rd place in each grade. Acworth has been a Tree City for the past 27 years and encourages the planting of trees for future generations to enjoy!
