Information Technology

The City of Acworth’s Information Technology Department provides centralized information and communication services for each city department, located in four separate buildings throughout the city. Each building is connected utilizing VLAN technologies, and physically connected by fiber optics. As of 2020, there are over 160 employees using various network applications. Some of the applications and services managed by the IT Department are listed below.

Email
Zimbra Collaboration Server is used for email, calendar and other collaboration services .

Telecommunications
Three phone systems connect via fiber, and provide a connected environment using VOIP technologies.

Website
The City of Acworth’s website is a hosted site.  All content updates and design is created by employees of the City of Acworth.

Network Security
The IT Department has implemented several layers of security to protect the city’s network and information. These include firewalls, web filters, VPN technologies, Anti-Virus, Spam filters and numerous multi-level switch layers.

Utilities
The City of Acworth uses Edmunds and Associates software applications. The system is used to track, maintain, and store power and utility processes, as well as financial records and other applications.

Servers and Workstations
Windows based servers and desktops are utilized in each department. Operating systems include Windows 10 on the desktops.  An array of virtual servers running Windows Server Environments are used to provide file storage and network security.
