On December 6th Mayor Tommy Allegood presented Cobb County Deputy Josh Wigley with the Proclamation for National Guard Day. Deputy Wigley served six years in the National Guard and has been with the Cobb Sheriff's Department for 15 months. December 13th is recognized at the birth of the National Guard. The National Guard is a component of the United States Army and is primarily composed of citizen soldiers who hold down full-time, civilian jobs and/or attend school. At the same time, they are available to provide support and protection for the states’ civilians or to be called for military operations for the country. Today, approximately 350,000 men and women serve in the National Guard and the Air National Guard, 39% of the Army’s operational force.
