Acworth Parks and Recreation Coordinator Mychal Lewis presented an overview of the Expanding Horizons and Acworth Achievers. Both programs are administered by Parks and Recreation, are funded by various benefactors and supported by several community volunteers and partnerships. The department partners with local schools to implement this program which targets under privilege children from 4th to 12th grade. Expanding Horizons is a program that affords an opportunity for less fortunate youth to attend educational field trips throughout the year. The Acworth Achievers Mentoring and After School program meets every Tuesday and Thursday at the Roberts School Community and Education Center from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and is free to all middle and high school students. This program offers computer access, professional tutoring, organized recreational activities, and mentoring.
