Sanitation is a division of Acworth Public Works.  The Sanitation Department has a customer base of approximately 6000. The Department has 14 employees, with five collection trucks, service vehicles and various compactors and dumpsters. The Department also delivers residential service cans for new and terminating customers.

General household garbage is waste that is generally considered kitchen waste from cooking, waste basket and other household wet garbage.

Yard Waste / Dry Item Collection is collected as a separate pick up from general household garbage consisting of grass clippings, leaves, small limbs and light construction debris. Grass clippings and leaves need to be bagged and cannot weigh more than 50 lbs., tree limbs are to be no greater than 4 feet in length, no greater than 4 inches in diameter, tied in bundles weighing no more than 50 lbs. Light construction debris weighing no more than 50 lbs. from projects performed by homeowners only will be retrieve, but under no circumstances will contractor generated debris be pick up.  Other “Dry Items” collected along with yard waste would be lamps, small kitchen appliances, clothes, cardboard, misc. items from closet & garage cleanouts etc. The City does not collect dirt, rocks, bricks, cinder blocks, broken concrete, etc.

Large items consist of appliances and items weighing over 50 lbs., provided the item is not too large to be safely handled by the collection crew, i.e. washers, dryers, refrigerators, other white goods, etc.  Large item pickup can be scheduled by calling Customer Service at 770-917-8903.
